Why bass is hard to tune

Bass fundamentals sit low - roughly 41 Hz for low E, 31 Hz for a five-string low B. At those frequencies most needle and clip-on tuners struggle: the waveform's period is long, the fundamental is weak next to finger noise, and the pitch estimate jumps by whole cents. The needle never settles, so you tune by guess.
