The pattern settles and the cents reading is steady, so each open string locks cleanly. The squareneck dobro is played almost exclusively in open G, G2, B2, D3, G3, B3, D4 (GBDGBD) - a G major triad across the strings, one whole step higher than a guitar's open G (DGDGBD). The high string tension is why squareneck resonators are built heavy and solid. StroboPro ships this as the Open G preset, plus standard EADGBE for roundneck players who fret.
Squareneck or roundneck, set the open tuning with the bar off the strings: a squareneck lays flat in your lap under the steel, while a roundneck is held the same way for slide work, not fretted. Pluck each open string and bring it up from below so the banjo-style tuners settle rather than slip. The resonator cone throws strong high partials out of the cover plate - on a strobe those partials are signal, not noise. Each one gets its own rotating harmonic ring, so watch the high rings, not just the fundamental: when the bright cone partials stop moving, the string is genuinely in tune across its spectrum.

Why use a strobe for resonator?
The resonator cone produces a bright, sustained, overtone-rich tone that a multi-harmonic strobe can display clearly. Each harmonic gets its own rotating ring, so the fundamental and partials show together; when they all stop moving, the string is in tune.
