Readable Strobe Tuner: Strobe Accuracy Without the Eye-Strain

Why strobe tuners are hard to read

A traditional strobe tuner copies the original mechanical strobe: a patterned disc lit by a flashing light, where the pattern appears to stand still when the note is in tune. On a phone or computer screen that means a flickering, busy spinning wheel with no fixed reference point. Your eye has to judge whether a moving pattern is drifting, which is tiring and slow, especially on a noisy stage or under stage lighting.

The measurement underneath is excellent - strobe tuners resolve pitch to a fraction of a cent in real time. The problem is purely the visual idiom: a flashing wheel is a hard thing to stare at.

How StroboPro stays readable: phase, not flash

I built StroboPro to do the same phase comparison as a strobe tuner, but without emulating a flashing wheel. Instead it tracks the realtime phase of each harmonic and visualizes it as its own harmonic ring that rotates at a speed proportional to the pitch error and locks when that harmonic is on pitch. Three things make it easy on the eyes:

StroboPro even offers two render modes. The default Velocity mode animates each ring smoothly at the measured velocity; Position mode samples and jumps to the live phase, closer to how a real mechanical strobe behaves. Velocity is the default precisely because it is the calmer, more readable of the two.

Same accuracy, calmer eyes

Readable does not mean less precise. StroboPro still resolves pitch to 0.1 cent on screen, still tracks multiple harmonics at once, and still locks low bass fundamentals that needle and FFT tuners wander on. You give up nothing in measurement - you only give up the eye-strain of a flashing wheel.

That makes it the strobe you can actually use for a full gig, a long setup session, or intonation work where you hold a note for several seconds while turning a screwdriver.
